Stuben am Arlberg owes its cosy-sounding name to its original purpose: to offer “fire, water and shelter” to all who made their way to the Arlberg — or came down from it. In the 12th century, Count Hugo von Montfort handed the area over to the Knights Hospitaller on the condition that they build accommodation for travellers. The living quarters built back then were called “Stuben”. In the heatable rooms, hikers found protection from swirling snow — and a place to stay as darkness fell.
We still live by that spirit today. Whether it’s culinary delights, good company or pure relaxation — on the sun terrace, at the Hannes Schneider Bar, in the Arlen Spa, in the Restaurant Postamt and, of course, in our rooms and suites. We want to create those precious après moments for you — when you come back from your outdoor activities and step into our cosy Stube.
The starting point for this idea is the old tiled stove in Restaurant Postamt — reinterpreted in a contemporary way as a Terrastone block at the heart of our rooms. A welcoming place for conversation is the central fireplace, linking the hotel lobby with the Hannes Schneider Bar. And in the SCA Stube, dedicated to Ski Club Arlberg, you can also make yourself comfortable after a day in the fresh air. If you like, you’ll find plenty to read here about sport, the landscape, and the region and its people.
But for us, a sense of security means above all heartfelt warmth — the foundation of everything we do — so that our après moments turn your holiday into something truly special. We want you to forget everyday life, and feel right at home at the same time.
