The Arlberg’s role as the cradle of skiing is closely linked to the name Hannes Schneider, who was born in Stuben in 1890. He founded and led the ski school in St. Anton and is credited with developing the teaching method known as the Arlberg technique, including the “Arlberg crouch” and the stem Christie.
In the 1930s, he became world-famous through the ski films of Arnold Fanck. The legendary “The White Ecstasy”, filmed at the Arlberg in 1931, remains captivating to this day with its impressive footage of the finest skiers of that era.
On your way from the slopes back to HOTEL APRÈS POST, you’ll pass the bronze sculpture by Vorarlberg artist Udo Rabensteiner, depicting Hannes Schneider in his signature pose. And at the HANNES SCHNEIDER BAR, you’ll find not only timeless classics, but also a few trendsetters on the drinks menu.
